CINEMATOGRAPHER
Jieun Yi was born in a small village in Danyang, South Korea. She began writing poetry and painting at a young age and won awards for her work as a teenager. Her love for film led her to Berlin. Starting in 2009, she studied cinematography at the Konrad Wolf Film Academy in Potsdam Babelsberg. Her graduation film "Looping", directed by Leonie Krippendorff, successfully screened at various festivals and received numerous awards.
For "O Beautiful Night" she was nominated for Best Cinematography at the German Film Award 2020 as well as for the German Camera Award in the category Feature Film.
In 2021, she shot the episode "The Light Blue Day" of the series "Punishment" based on short stories by Ferdinand von Schirach and feature film "Sonne und Beton" directed by David Wendt. “Sonne und Beton” received four nominations for the German Film Award 2023 including Best Feature Film. The series "Hübsches Gesicht," which Jieun shot in 2022, was nominated for the Grimme Award 2023.
Jieun was awarded with the Bavarian Film Prize 2023 for Best Cinematography for “Sonne und Beton”.
