CINEMATOGRAPHER
During his traineeship at a TV station where Marvin Schatz found out that cinematography is what he was passionate about, not the kind of he was surrounded by at the TV station, the „real“ one for the big screen.
After working as an assistant camera and electrician for several feature films and commercials he startet studying cinematography at the renowned Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg. During his studies he worked together with many different directors and was responsible for the cinematography of numerous short fiction films, documentary films and commercials with screenings at numerous international festivals like Camerimage or Filmfest Dresden.
His feature film debut „Die Geschichte des Trümmermädchens Charlotte Schuhmann,“ by Oliver Kracht which is set in the postwar Germany of 1946 premiered at the international Hofer Filmtage and was screened in many different countries.
His second feature film „Zwischen uns die Nacht,“ by Abini Gold in co-production with ZDF Das kleine Fernsehspiel premiered at the Munich Filmfestival 2023, won both the main jury and the student jury award for best feature film at the Televisionale in Baden Baden and he is nominated for best cinematography at the German Cinematography Award 2024.Marvin lives with his family in Berlin.
