CINEMATOGRAPHER
Max Preiss graduated from the German Film and Television Academy of Berlin (dffb), and held a scholarship at the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts). He has lived in Mexico and the US, and is now based in Berlin.
Max has filmed numerous international documentaries and European feature fiction movies. His works have been short listed for the Academy Awards, nominated for Emmy Awards, and won the prestigious Critic’s Week in Cannes. His collaborators include Academy Award winner Louie Psihoyos and Emmy Award winner Matthew Heineman.
Preiss is at home both on large, controlled film sets and in chaotic, unpredictable real life scenarios with tiny crews. He has a talent for shaping the strong visuals of a character-driven story and creating an almost fictional feel for doc-style subjects.
His most recent film productions include the feature films “Toubab” and “Niemand ist bei den Kälbern.” In 2022, Preiss filmed three episodes, directed by Sarah Blaßkiewitz, of the high-end series “Sam - Ein Sachse” for Disney+, which has been nominated for the Grimme Award 2024.
Max Preiss is represented by Patricia Barona.
