ROBERT THALHEIM

DIRECTOR

Robert Thalheim briefly worked as an assistant director at the Berliner Ensemble and studied New German Literature, History, and Politics at the FU Berlin before studying directing under the mentorship of Rosa von Praunheim at the Konrad Wolf Film Academy. In the third year of his studies, he made the film “Netto” (2004), which was awarded several prizes, including the Max Ophüls Prize and the Film Critics' Prize.

In 2006, he directed his graduation film “Am Ende kommen Touristen” in Ausschwitz, where he had already worked in the International Youth Meeting Center in the 1990s, and which premiered in Cannes in 2007. With Jane Ainscough, he developed the screenplay for his relationship study “Eltern,” which showed with great success at the Munich Film Festival.

In addition to other cinema and television films, Thalheim also directs in the theater, among other projects, “Moschee De” with Kolja Mensing, a scenic reconstruction of the construction of the Khadija Mosque in Berlin-Heinersdorf in 2006, which had its premiere at the Schauspielhaus Hannover in 2010.

“The Billion Dollar Code,” his critically acclaimed debut series for Netflix, co-written with Oliver Ziegenbalg, has been launched on Netflix in October 2021.
