CHRISTIAN LYRA

WRITER

Before Christian Lyra began screenwriting, he worked as a freelance journalist for the Süddeutsche Zeitung and Die Zeit among others. He co-edited the award-winning CD “Fauser O-Ton” for Trikont, was editor and contributor to “Brot. Fanzine,” and embarked upon his first cinematic work in the Munich underground on Super 8.

One of his first scripts was the screenplay for “In jeder Sekunde” (Hofer Filmtage 2008), directed by Jan Fehse. He also wrote and produced the two-person chamber play “Jasmin” for Jan Fehse (Filmfest München, 2012).

In 2009, the film “Distanz,” which he co-authored with Thomas Sieben, opened the Perspektive Deutscher Film section of the Berlinale. His film “Staudamm” about a student's rampage, directed by Thomas Sieben, screened in 2013 in the competition of the Max Ophüls Festival and at the Toronto International Film Festival, among others.

In 2013 Christian Lyra's collaboration with Sebastian Wehlings began. They started their collaboration with the series “Add a Friend,” the first in-house production of the pay TV channel TNT. Together they conceived and wrote three seasons of the series, for which they received the Grimme Award as well as the Bavarian Screenplay Award. Since then, as a team they have successfully worked on other films such as Matthias Schweighöfer's “Vaterfreuden” and “Lindenberg! Mach Dein Ding,” which was nominated for the German Film Award in 2020.

Christian Lyra is represented by Katrin Näher.
